Zaarpipes. (Woody 2006)

This was our second piece based on purpose-made music by Woody. This had a very spooky opening and real Scottish flavour with full bagpipes and quite a military feel to the drumming in places. Due to various problems with our rehearsal venue we had less time to prepare for this performance so had to keep it simple - which in the end was probably beneficial.

We were planning to perform this at the October 2006 Jewel of Yorkshire festival where Deirdre MacDonald was teaching and performing. As Deirdre is based in Glasgow we thought it would be fun to try to incorporate her into the mix.

Given that the music was being created as we went along it was easy enough to ask Woody to create an extended version of the piece to give Deirdre a section of her own to work on. After a very hurried and cramped rehearsal session, with all of us in a hotel room the night before the festival, we managed to pull off a decent performance on the night.
